Upcoming year:

Hey Girlies! You can't even imagine how deprived I've been feeling not posting. It was a horrible mistake I will never do ever again.

I am still in New York, and will be staying until the eighth of January. I have had an eventful Christmas. Both my mom's and my dad's families are in upstate New York, so we had two Christmas'. A lot of fun, a lot of love, and a lot of presents; despite the fact that New York was our present.

I have some new years resolutions for this blog, and would love to carry them through. Mostly requests. If you have any, let me know by New Years day so I can plan. So far I have: beauty tips, babysitting review, and upcycling old things and garbage. Fun right?!

Oh! I will be reviewing my Christmas presents as well. Very fun stuff! Let me know of anything else. Glad to be back, I will be back....

Bye!!!

Happy Birthday Girls Love Chevron!

Happy Birthday to GLC!!!! Today is a very happy day for me because my blog has made it a whole year.

Through this year I've had ups and downs, and all arounds! I never thought that I would open an etsy shop last year... okay, actually I had a feeling that I was going to be a millionaire. Just kidding, I'm not a millionaire. But I knew that I would grow.

At the beginning of this year I was obsessed with views and other not important things. Okay I still like views. Heh. Who doesn't?! Now, I finally understand that blogging isn't supposed to be a race, or a competition, it supposed to be you. A girl can be herself in anything she does, only if she lets herself be.

Girls Love Chevron has many parts. But I think the best one is creativity. As some of you know,  I am in New York for the next 3 weeks. I did this happy birthday party a few days ago. Check it out below.

Thank you all for being apart of this blog. Be sure to show me your creativity! I hope you had a good Christmas. Have a happy New Year! Love you all!

12 Days of Chevron: Day 12: The best gift of all

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Chevron series! Be sure to subscribe to Girls Love Chevron on bloglovin' and blogger! Read below to find another gift...

These past 12 days I have posted handmade gifts to give to your friends and family. Today I don't have a tutorial, or a link, but still something very special. So keep reading!

Christmas is supposed to celebrate love. The love that Jesus gave, the love that Jesus is, and the love that we give to remember that love, and even the love we receive. The real thing we should be celebrating is Jesus. Not the night he was born, not the gifts that he recived, but him. The awesomeness of the fact that God gave his son! To us! That is the best gift known.  And the best we can give.

So come on girlies! Help me by using your creative bone to get this message out there. Show the love, show Jesus, show thankfulness.

Today is the last day of my series 12 Days of Chevron. I have really enjoyed the craziness, the sighs from my mom, and me typing on my computer trying to make the message come across. It has been so much fun just to see how much everyone has loved this series. I have all my Christmas gifts ready! And I hope to do more stuff like it.

I am leaving for New York in a half hour. Pray for safe traveling, no accidents of any kind, and for there to be no ice on the roads. I will not be posting again until Girls Love Chevron's anniversary, which is the day after Christmas.

Have a wonderful Christmas! Be creative, spontaneous, and funky! And remember the love, the gift, and the happiness of Christmas.

The first one is a fabric bow, and the second is made out of ribbon. The felt bow bookmarks would go perfectly with these; you could do a bow present!

Here are the links:

  1. Fabric Bows
  2. Ribbon Bows
I hope you have as much fun as do making these bows. Be sure to let me know about your experience. And thank you for reading!

12 Days of Chevron: Day 10: Popcorn guide and recipes

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Chevron series! Be sure to subscribe to Girls Love Chevron on bloglovin' and blogger! Read below to find another gift...

Popcorn, something almost everybody loves. It's something you can put time into, or not. It is the perfect gift when you need something to fill up your time. Or, give you something to eat... ;)  Popcorn is pretty self explanatory, but I have some recipes from the kitchen. Don't just buy a bag! Make one!

Old Fashion Popcorn:
This popcorn is made with coconut oil to give it a butter-y taste, but is still crunchy instead of soggy.

What you need:

  • 1 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons salt
Directions:
Put coconut oil into big pot (one that you would cook a lot of soup in, but not like a giant one), and put on the stove on high. Put one or two popcorn kernels in with it, and when those pop, add all of the kernels and salt. Put on the lid. Move pot back and forth. Listen closely to the popping; when it slows to one pop every 2-3 seconds, remove from stove. Stir.

Caramel Corn:
I have tried different Caramel corn recipes but they take like 3 hours to make! This takes about 15 min. counting oven time. There is no corn syrup as well!

What you need:

  • 3 quarts of popped corn
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
Directions:
Melt butter in saucepan on the stove, add sugar and whip until fluffy. Pour over popcorn. Bake in 350 degree oven for 8 min. or until crisp.

Kettle Corn:
The original recipe had more sugar and less salt. I tweaked it a little.

What you need:
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons salt
Directions:
Put oil and a few kernels into a big soup pot. Put onto stove on high. When kernels pop. Put the rest of the kernels, sugar, and salt into pot. Put on the lid. Move back and forth. Listen closely to popping, when it slows to one pop every 2-3 seconds, remove from heat. Remove lid, and stir.

Tips:
  • Put on the lid! If you want the stuff in the pot to come out of the pot than you shouldn't put on the lid. But if you want it to stay cooking and in the pot, put on the lid!
  • Put popcorn into bowl before dividing it into bags or containers.
  • Adjust the heat as you cook on the stove.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading, I hope this gave you a recipe.

12 Days of Chevron: Day 9: Pin Cushion Jar

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Chevron series! Be sure to subscribe to Girls Love Chevron on bloglovin' and blogger! Read below to find another gift...

I have a few sewers in my family and they need or want pincushions. I found two really cute ideas, and I will be showing you how to do one. The other, a framed pincushion, I will give you the link for it  here.

But anyway, the one I will be showing you how to make a pincushion jar. Now anyone related to me, please do not make this, it might end up being yours... so with that suddenness, let's get started!

What you need:
  • 4x5 inch piece of fabric
  • 2x3 inch piece of fabric
  • hot glue gun
  • stuffing
  • small mason jar
  • scissors
Directions:

Pop out the center of the jar. Cut the 2x3 inch piece into a circle that will cover the center. Set aside. Put stuffing into the center of the largest piece of fabric. Put the inside of the lid on top of the stuffing.

Trim the fabric so only an inch is left.

Hot glue that leftover fabric to the jar.

Pop out the lid again and glue the circle over the bottom (as shown below).

Around the inside rim of the jar cap, push the cushion part back into the rim. As shown below.

This post was more difficult to get across. I hope you get the message. If you have any questions just ask me. I filled the bottom of this with pins. You can put anything in the bottom, or just leave it.
Thanks for reading, come back tomorrow for another gift.

12 Days of Chevron: Day 2: Chevron Comp. Notebook

Welcome back to the 12 Days of Chevron series! Be sure to subscribe to Girls Love Chevron on bloglovin' and blogger! Read below to find another gift...

This is the perfect gift for that writer friend of yours. You can create different textures with different colors too, but today I will be showing you how to do a chevron stripe.

You will need:
Directions:
Spray paint the front and back of your notebook. Once dried, start at the top corner and dot the paint in a V shape all the way across the notebook, making one chevron stripe. Make it about 1 1/2 -2 inches wide. Use the paintbrush to create another stripe about 1 1/2 - 2 inches down. Alternate dots and stripes. When you are finished, leave to dry for about an hour.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and you can be sure your friend will enjoy this notebook. Especially because you made it with your hands!

12 Days Of Chevron: Day 1: Bath salts

Welcome to my 12 Days of Chevron Series! I will be doing posts with Christmas gifts, for the next 12 days. There will be links as well as tutorials. If you don't have time to make these gifts, some of them you will be able to purchase at GirlsLoveChevronShop on etsy!

Today I'll show you how to make some bath salts. You can use different scents, add colors, or just do it plain. This creation will be made by you, so make it your way! Here are the directions:

You will need:
  • 1 1/2 cups of epsom salt
  • 10 drops of your favorite scent
  • 5 drops of your choice of food coloring
  •  mason jar
Mix together epsom salt, scent, and color in a bag. The drops of color clump up, so be sure to shake well. Once the colors have been dispersed evenly, pour into jar.

I did many colors, but this one was my favorite!  You can add more salt, or do less. Same with the colors. Now all you have to do is stick a bow on it!

P.S. Don't have time to make this gift? You can purchase different kinds of bath salts at GirlsLoveChevronShop on etsy.

Keeping Thanks In Mind

Hi everyone! By now I am assuming everyone is baking and getting ready for Thanksgiving. I just want to say how amazing it is that there is a holiday for giving thanks! I mean think about how important Christmas is to everyone. You receive and give, but the other part of that has to be being thankful for that. I think of Thanksgiving as a reminder that what we have is more than a lot of people.

Like a T.V which I am currently watching the Macy Thanksgiving Parade, and the sweet smells coming from the kitchen, and sitting in this chair with a blanket. I hope you guys are enjoying your Thanksgiving and will come back for more posts and ideas!

One more thing! My neighbor showed me these guys that are amazing:

Listen to them and really really enjoy your day!!

Pinterest Week

I've spent hours on pinterest this week just searching for girls room decor, how to make your own gift bag, and some gift ideas.  I did end up finding a number of things on pinterest, and I really want to do some to my room, but it involves a lot of new purchases. I'm not very fond of those.

I also found so many cute quotes on etsy as well! And I wanted to share some with you:

  • She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.
  • Some girls are born with glitter in their veins!
  • She turned her "CANT'S" into "CANS", and her "DREAMS" into "PLANS!"
  • She Believed she Could so she Did.
  • Be your own kind of beautiful.
There were so many others, but I definitely liked these the best.

What I ended up doing to my room was taking my giant yellow pillow and pink ruffle pillow and placed them beneath the giant pink tissue paper flowers I made. I found different bedrooms and thought you might want to see them. I love all of these and would have already turned my room into these if I had more room... hmm. (It would be wrong to knock out a wall without asking, right?)

Gold is in. But gold polka dots are even more in!

I am starting a new series called "12 Days of Chevron." December 13 will be the start of the series and it will end December 25. Everyday I will post a DIY gift that you can do in no time. Also you can expect there to be chevron incorporated into these gifts. ;)

So that is all for today, but I will be back, as always. And I am updating my about page so check that out.

November Reading List

This month I read only two series, I am sorry there are only two books but please check them out. Remember to follow these rules before reading a book:

  • Read the description. Covers can be deceiving!
  • Check the Library. Most of the time you can borrow the book instead of purchasing it.
  • If one of your friends recommends a book, it is probably good. Your friends are your friends because you like their style. If they like a book, you might like it too!

Pumpkin Breakfast Cookies

Comfort food. Food. I have another post for you with food. I hope you don't mind! Yesterday I made these in the morning and everyone was asking for seconds! Of course, I mean, it's pumpkin! Why wouldn't someone want seconds? I hope you guys will like these, I do.

I did change this up a bit and added my own personal touch. I put in about three teaspoons of Maple Syrup. It definitely gave it an extra sweet taste. Also I did make up a glaze to drizzle on top and I'll give you the recipe for that too.

Cookie:
  •  3 cups oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup canned pumpkin
  • 3 teaspoons of maple syrup
Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • sprinkle of ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  1. In a large bowl mix all ingredients for cookies together.
  2. Drop by the spoonful onto greased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake at 350 for 9-10 minutes.
  4. Mix ingredients for glaze.
  5. Let cool for a few minutes on cookie sheet then remove from pan to cooling rack.
  6.  Pour glaze over the cookies. Serve these warm.
I encourage everyone to try these. They are truly truly amazing. I was saving the one in the picture, but it didn't last. I ate it. Try it, so easy, so yummy, yes! I feel like a T.V. show host.
