The Help Book Review

I finally have a book review for you guys! I haven't done a list or review in a long time, so I am trying to catch up.   I have read quite a few books lately, all very good, and I have a lot I want to do reviews on. But for now I am going to start on The Help.

The book is set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962.
It is 451 pages long and it was published Febuary 10th, 2009.

Skeeter Phelan, is a twenty-two-year-old woman who has just graduated from Ole Miss.  Skeeter comes home to find the maid who raised her, Constantine, gone.  Her mother won't say anything about except that Constantine quit, but Skeeter knows there is more to the story.

Aibileen is a black maid who works for Skeeter's friend Elizabeth. Aibileen is now raising her seventh white child, Elizabeth's daughter. She gives the little girl the attention and love that her mother never gives. Something has changed inside of Aibileen and she feels that this will be her last white child.

Minny, Aibileen's friend, has the biggest mouth in all of Mississippi. Minny is also the best cook in Mississippi, but that doesn't always cover up her sass. Minny has been fired yet again and is looking for a new job. She finds one working for someone new in town who has many big secrets, but that's okay, so does Minny.

These women go to start working on Skeeter's risky project. They put their lives on the line so that people can see what they can. How will they convince others to help, and how can they break through the barriers set because of different skin colors?

You can purchase The Help here, along with the movie here. If you want more book reviews let me know!
